Faculty Teaching & Learning Scholars 2011 - 2012
Applications are invited from suitable applicants with an interest in developing leadership capacity for teaching within the faculty. The program will fund scholars for a period of 18 months.
Application process
- Complete application form and submit to glefoe@uow.edu.au by 5 pm Monday 4th July 2011.
- Advisory group, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), decides on which projects are to be supported.
- Budget of $11,000 allocated for half time release from teaching for one academic for one session and other project expenses, or as otherwise negotiated with facilitator.
Note: All funds must be expended within the agreed timeframe or returned to DVC (A).
The project should address a need for teaching and learning improvement from the faculty strategic plan. The project plan, including budget allocation, must address the criteria in the application form.
Essential criteria
The scholar should demonstrate:
- A capacity for leadership development in the area of teaching and learning;
- A desire to engage with a distributed leadership model and to work collaboratively across faculties;
- Knowledge and understanding of learning theories and processes, and evaluation processes;
- Knowledge of available and emerging teaching and learning methods and practice;
- Proven record of achievement in educational design, teaching media, educational technology and /or curriculum development; and
- Knowledge of university structures and decision making procedures.
Overview of Scholar's tasks
- Lead a faculty or school based initiative in an aspect of change management within the faculty /school with a staff development focus e.g. Lead faculty/school based team for implementation of Leading Teaching Teams guidelines;
- Create a plan of action to address the issue in consultation with the Academic Development Unit and project team;
- Attend a leadership retreat in an off-campus location;
- Meet regularly with a key member of the University executive for coaching/mentoring;
- Collaborate regularly with other scholars at UOW;
- Collect and prepare resources related to the project identified;
- Participate in evaluation processes throughout the project;
- Participate in institutional network and support activities;
- Provide leadership for planning and developing an institutional roundtable to share the outcomes of the project;
- Participate in a mentoring partnership with a previous scholar; and
- Disseminate through conference papers/ journal articles before the end of 2013.
